At the autumn product launch event, Apple officially announced its shift to USB Type-C connectors for the iPhone, allowing users to use the same cable to easily charge their Mac or iPad. Additionally, it enables the iPhone 15 and Pro series to charge Apple Watch or AirPods.
Apple's latest support documentation provides a detailed overview of the six main uses for the iPhone 15's USB Type-C connection:
Fast Charging: Utilize a 20W or higher USB Type-C charger or connect the iPhone to a computer's USB Type-C port for rapid charging.
Connecting to Other Devices: Link the iPhone to iPad, Mac, and other computers for easy data transfer of photos and videos.
Charging Smaller Devices: Through the iPhone, users can charge small devices like AirPods and Apple Watch (up to 4.5W), requiring an adapter to connect to Lightning port devices.
Music Playback: Using the USB Type-C connector, users can choose to connect wired headphones or other audio devices, such as the all-new EarPods (USB-C).
External Display: Connect the iPhone to an external display to enjoy videos and photos on a larger screen, supporting up to 4K at 60Hz with specific cables and adapters.
Connecting to Other Devices: Support for connecting to a variety of devices that adhere to the USB Type-C standard, including CarPlay, external storage devices, monitors, microphones, power banks, USB Type-C Ethernet adapters, SD card adapters, and more.
This significant change from Apple provides users with greater convenience, as they can use a single connection method for various purposes.
